A gull-wing door, also known as a falcon-wing door or an up-door, is an automotive industry term describing doors hinged at the roof rather than the side. The design is a convenient one in tight fire fighting spaces. When properly designed and counterbalanced, they require little side-clearance to open and allow much better entrance/egress than conventional doors. This allows for easy access to bulky fire fighting gear.
